Artist talk: Taring Padi

Join us for an urgent dialogue with Taring Padi, the Indonesian collectivist art movement founded in 1998 during the nation’s reformation era. For over two decades, this Yogyakarta-based collective has operated at the intersection of art and direct political action—creating woodcut posters, massive banners, rontek installations, and community-made cardboard puppets.

After their landmark documenta fifteen appearance (2022) and major exhibitions across Amsterdam and Brisbane (2023–2024), Taring Padi brings their signature approach to our festival: art as organic solidarity work. Their talk will explore sustained struggles—from Brazilian Jewish diaspora collaborations with Casa Do Povo and MST, to fighting toxic pollution in Central Java rivers.
