Suneela Mubayi, writer, independent scholar and translator, earned her Ph.D. in Arabic literature at NYU where she completed a thesis on vagabond poets between classical and modern Arabic poetry, and taught Arabic literature at Cambridge University in 2019-20 and was the joint recipient of a translation fellowship from the National Endowment of the Arts for the travelogue of nahda polymath Ahmad Faris al-Shidyaq. She has written on platforms such as al-Jumhuriya and Ashkal Alwan and translated close to 100 essays, poems and pieces of fiction between Arabic, English, and Urdu, which have been published in Banipal, Words Without Borders, Asymptote, Jadaliyya, Mada Masr and elsewhere.
