Carmel Alabbasi
Carmel Alabbasi is a Palestinian visual artist who has carved out a dynamic path, enriched by diverse academic pursuits and career experiences. Beginning with a foundation in journalism and social anthropology, their journey led them through the realm of photography, and they recently received an MFA at KHIO, Oslo. Their creative practice spans video art, sound, writing, sculpture, and installation. Carmel explores concepts of absence and disappearance, illuminating the intricate interplay between spaces, bodies, and objects entangled within the complex web of colonial and patriarchal heritage. They grapple with portraying the notion that remains after the systematic erasure of people, spaces, and places, haunted by memories and identities that were once held.
