Masahat and Amnesty invites you to a talk with human rights defender and researcher Maryam al-Khawaja, who will guide us through Bahrain’s modern history—from the al-Khalifa family’s establishment of rule in 1783 and its colonial past as a British protectorate until independence in 1971, to the ongoing regional tensions between Iran, the US, and Israel. She will examine how these geopolitical developments have affected ordinary civilians, with particular focus on the erosion of economic and political rights in Bahrain today.
