The genocide in Gaza has exposed the complicity of our cultural and academic institutions in zionism and related colonial ideologies of extermination, extraction and unlawful accumulation of wealth. Artists have contributed to a growing vanguard global movement in solidarity for Palestine and too many have paid the price for their principled stance against oppression. Nonetheless, artists and cultural producers continue to use their voices as well as their creative commitments to challenge cultural institutions and expose their complicity.
In this conversation with Farah Azrak and Hamed Sinno, moderated by Rana Issa, we will discuss the responsibility and necessity of art in a world descending towards authoritarianism, the difficulties of meaning making in times of genocide, and the problematics of yoking politics to art.
This event is in collaboration with Kunstnerforbundet.
Please note that Atelier Kunstnerforbundet Loft is on the 4th floor, and regrettably not accessible for people with limited mobility. A long-term rehabilitation of the building is in process. Please get in touch if you have questions about accessibility.
