In this seminar, Teresa Pepe led a discussion on three key ideas in the environmental humanities and ecocritical literature: crisis, resistance and care. The conversation started from two texts: the introduction to Serenella Iovino’s Ecocriticism and Italy: Ecology, Resistance, and Liberation (2016), and Thom van Dooren’s entry on “Care” in the Living Lexicon for the Environmental Humanities (2014).
Some of the questions on the table: How can literature help us understand ecological struggles? Can it be a form of resistance? And how do we think about care in response to an ecological crisis? Pepe opened by showing how she uses these concepts in her own readings of Arabic ecocritical literature.
The seminar was part of the monthly seminar series of the Eco-Emotions project at the University of Oslo.
