SUMMARY:Dr Daffodil Goes Occidental!
DESCRIPTION:Dr Daffodil Goes Occidental! is an innovative comedy performance that challenges stereotypes and prejudices about Arabs and the MENA region (the Middle East and North Africa). Through satire and role reversal\, the show plays with “the Western gaze” and questions who holds the power to define expertise. \nFlipping the “Western Gaze” \nThe show takes the form of a satirical lecture in which Dr Daffodil presents her theories on WENA (Western Europe and North America). The Nordics—and Norway in particular—serve as a point of departure for witty observations on Western culture\, mentality\, and self-image. \nMona Abdel-Fadil (she/her) is an Egyptian-Norwegian genre-bending comedy performer and academic with an undeniable stage presence. A skilled improviser and writer of fiction and satire with sharp comedic timing\, she’s committed to decolonizing comedy by challenging whose stories get told and whose perspectives become the punchline. Mona’s scripted performances blend her academic expertise with accessible humor\, inviting audiences to laugh at the absurdity of ethnocentrism while questioning the power structures that sustain it. For instance\, she has adapted excerpts of her satirical piece A Superiour Guide to Performing the Academic Self\, (Johns Hopkins Press 2020) for the stage as Diversity 101 for Superiour Academics. Mona was a recipient of the 2025 Transversal Performing Artist Grant and a Rawabat artist in residency. Dr. Daffodil Goes Occidental! is Mona’s first full-length solo show scripted for stage performance. \nLanguage: English \n  \nThis is event is presented in collaboration with Det Norske Teatret as part of their Palestinaprogrammet that is accompanying the staging of “Gjenferdet inn”.

DESCRIPTION:Mini Masahat har gleden av å invitere til Trommekurs + arabisk fest i anledning id feiring lørdag 21. mars kl. 14:30-17:30 på Det Norske Teatret! \nTrommekurs\nVelkommen til et rytmisk eventyr med Safaa Al-Saadi! Gjennom lek med ord\, takt og toner lærer barna å spille enkle rytmer på den arabiske trommen darbuka. Safaa\, en allsidig musiker\, tar med seg arabiske trommer som barna får låne. Han vil også spille litt på arabisk fløyte og riq. Her er det plass til både latter\, dans og læring! \n\n14:30-15:00\, 50 kr (kjøp billett)\n15:00-15:30\, 50 kr (kjøp billett)\n15:30-16:00\, 50 kr (kjøp billett)\n\n  \nId feiring (arabisk fest)\nEtter trommekurset avslutter vi kvelden med en hyggelig arabisk fest fylt med musikk\, dans\, kreativitet og deilige matsmaker fra Jamals Falafel! Arrangementet passer for alle barn og familier – både for dem som har arabisk som morsmål og for dem som er nysgjerrige på språket og kulturen. Gjennom kreative aktiviteter\, rytmisk musikk og felles matopplevelser skaper vi et lite møtested der barn og voksne kan utforske\, lære og ha det gøy sammen. \n\n16:00 –17:00: Dabke-dansekurs med sang og musikk\n17:00 – 17:30: Mat og kaker\nGratis inngang og åpent for alle.\n\nDette arrangementet er i samarbeid med MelaFantasi på arabisk og Det Norske Teatret som en del av “Palestinaprogrammet”\, som foregår i forbindelse med oppsetningen av «Gjenferdet inn». \n  \nTakk til Sparebankstiftelsen DNB for støtten til dette arrangementet.
